Tatil Life must continue its hard work in the Insurance and Financial Sectors if it wishes to remain a leader in the industry, says Stafford Yorke the General Manager of Tatil Life. “Our strategic vision is to maximise our contribution to the Financial Services Sector of the ANSA McAL group of companies by becoming the preferred Life Insurance provider in our chosen market. To be successful we must move forward, increase our people focus, increase branches and our sales force by recruiting and training our agents,” he said.

He was speaking at the Tatil Annual Awards 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Port-of-Spain. He added that these factors were responsible for the company achieving its goals in 2011. “We must develop and enhance our products so that our agents can have a competitive edge. Increase our investment income through our foreign and local portfolios; increase our market share in the industry. In 2011 these contributed to the company achieving its objectives and we expect this to continue in 2012 and beyond,” he said. He also spoke about the importance of insurance industry. “Life insurance plays an integral role in our lives. Insurance is sold and not bought. As managers and agents you have an important part to play. We must ensure our loved ones are taken care off in case of death and disability and loss of income, that is to say dying too soon and lost of income through disability. Life insurance makes this possible,” he said.

He said the strength of the company exists, because it belongs to the Ansa McAL family. “Our clients are supported by loyal the strong financial company Tatil Life and its Ansa McAL support. I will like to thank all managers, agents and staff for their commitment to the success of the company and making these awards possible,” he said. Nigel Romano, Sector Head, Financial Services Sector, called the last year a “challenging” year. “As we celebrate the success of our agents in 2011 it was a challenging year in which we worked to rebuild the brand and re-invigorate our promise from loyal customers and staff,” he said.

Saturday March 10, 2012 marked the first clash between Tatil’s Hit and Run Squad vs. ANSA McAL & Alston’s Shipping Hit Harder and Run Faster Squad. Players and patrons alike came out in their red, blue and in some cases, neutral purple shirts to show a vibrant sea of support for their respective sides. Two games were played on the day. The opening and feature match, comprised of both male and female players to commemorate International Women’s Day observed on March 8, 2012. The second game was the full eleven Men vs Men competition which included involvement from friends, relatives and others.

The sky was bleak on Saturday morning and rain threatened to stop the grand battle (not the one which took place at the Queen’s Park Oval, TT vs Jamaica) from taking place. However, in the true spirit of rivalry and resilience Tatil and ANSA McAL families took matters into their own hands and prevailed over unfavourable circumstances. It’s amazing what free grog, food and music can do to people. Tatil provided the food….delicious pelau and geera chicken whilst drinks….Carib…..Carib….Stag….Pilsner……Barcardi…….Sky Vodka…Dewars…..and other concoctions were supplied by ANSA McAL. Additionally, entertainment which consisted of music, a generator and fog lights were supplied by the Head Office team who were adamant about sustaining and winning the liming portion of the event. This they did…..with no contesters in sight!

Tatil won the coin toss and sent ANSA McAL & Friends to bat first. The order of the day, to facilitate uniformity and equality, was that a female and male batsperson had to be in the crease at any given time. ANSA McAL started strong with British deportee….sorry…import, Barry Attz (we hear the England camp calling his name) and Alston’s Shipping’s Courtney Harris, a budding MC. There was outstanding backing system from the ladies of ANSA McAL & Alston’s Shipping and a fantastic display of skills and determination not only to participate but to succeed. Weather conditions made the game a little more challenging with some women running and slipping on the field but they quickly dusted themselves off and resumed play in proper combatant fashion. In the end, ANSA & Shipping racked up a score of 39 runs for 4 wickets from a total of 10 overs and celebrated to a string of soca tunes. Tatil was up next and although the first female batswoman got ousted for duck, the team swiftly regrouped and sent in ‘Allum 100’ as her jersey proudly stated. A slew of exceptional performances from Arthur Hutton and Curtis La Roche, which included a chain of fours and sixes, pushed Tatil ahead of ANSA McAL/Shipping in the 4th over. A few overzealous hits high up in the air from the men of Tatil caused them to be caught out but not before making their presence felt. However, the women of Tatil were not excluded from the honours of the day as they represented firmly against a formidable team. Ultimately, Tatil’s Hit and Run Squad outshone the opposition and ANSA just did not hit harder or run faster. The lime went on to the wee hours of the morning, well nah…..until night, as there were complaints from President’s House. Family and friends could not get enough of the sweet vibes from DJ TLE…..Head Office again!

The event was a major accomplishment for both companies and inspired great camaraderie and sportsmanship between the employees as well as among the supporters. Tatil swept the board in cricket victories and ANSA McAL & Alston’s Shipping took home the trophy in the liming aspect of the fete cricket match. Fun was had by one and all and the resounding question from the crowd was, “When’s the next match?”

A.M. Best Affirms Ratings Of Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Limited

OLDWICK, NEW JERSEY, U.S.A., November 1, 2011—A.M. Best Co. has affirmed the financial strength rating of A- (Excellent) and issuer credit rating of “a-” of Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Limited (TATIL) (Trinidad). The outlook for both ratings is stable.

The ratings reflect TATIL’s historically profitable operating performance, solid capitalization and the support the company receives from its ultimate parent, ANSA McAL Limited (AMCL). AMCL is one of the largest diversified companies in the Caribbean and is publicly-traded on the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange.

TATIL’s prudent underwriting philosophy and conservative risk management strategies historically have resulted in favorable underwriting results. This has enabled the company to record consistent overall earnings in recent years, while enhancing its risk-adjusted capitalization. As an important strategic focus within AMCL’s financial services segment, TATIL has the support and commitment of AMCL and benefits from group synergies, along with access to AMCL’s considerable resources, including information technology, financial and investment management services.

Partially offsetting these positive rating factors is the geographic concentration of TATIL’s operation, the challenges to maintain overall earnings and market share in extremely competitive markets and the potential impact from exposure to catastrophic events.

The principal methodology used in determining these ratings is Best’s Credit Rating Methodology — Global Life and Non-Life Insurance Edition , which provides a comprehensive explanation of A.M. Best’s rating

process and highlights the different rating criteria employed. Additional key criteria utilized include: “Risk Management and the Rating Process for Insurance Companies”; “Understanding BCAR for Property/Casualty Insurers”; “Understanding Universal BCAR”; “Rating Members of Insurance Groups”; “A.M. Best’s Ratings & the Treatment of Debt”; “Natural Catastrophe Stress Test Methodology”; and “Assessing Country Risk.” Methodologies can be found at www.ambest.com/ratings/methodology .

This year there were six categories:

This is the first tournament of the year where golfers who aspire to represent the country in International and Caribbean Golf Tournaments can begin to accumulate points toward national ranking.

Competition was especially keen this year for places on the national teams, as Trinidad and Tobago will defend four of the six trophies in the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships later this year in St Kitts.

T&T’s first locally-owned insurance company has been given high marks by a leading international ratings agency. AM Best has affirmed the financial strength rating of A- (excellent) and issuer credit rating of “a-” of Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Ltd (Tatil). The outlook for both ratings is stable.

AM Best stated that the ratings reflected Tatil’s historically profitable operating performance, solid capitalisation and the support the company receives from its ultimate parent, ANSA McAL Ltd (AMCL), one of the largest diversified companies in the Caribbean and publicly-traded on the T&T Stock Exchange.

The insurance rating agency described Tatil’s underwriting philosophy as “prudent,” noting that its conservative risk management strategies historically have resulted in favorable underwriting results. This, said AM Best, had enabled the company to record consistent overall earnings in recent years, while enhancing its risk-adjusted capitalisation.

Tatil became a part of AMCL’s financial services portfolio in 2004 when it merged with ANSA Merchant Bank Ltd. Seven years later, this still continues to bear fruit as AM Best pointed to Tatil as an important strategic focus within AMCL’s financial services segment.
As a result, AM Best noted, Tatil benefits from group synergies, along with access to AMCL’s considerable resources, including information technology, financial and investment management services.

However, AM Best cautioned that there were risks partially offsetting these positive rating factors. The ratings agency expressed concern that all of Tatil’s business was concentrated within T&T. It suggested that this geographic concentration could pose challenges for the insurer in maintaining its overall earnings and market share in extremely competitive markets.

As with all insurance companies, the potential impact from exposure to catastrophic events remains a very real risk and AM Best also cited this as a mitigating factor in its rating analysis. (Caribbean360)

On Saturday 20th August, the LOMA Society of Trinidad and Tobago hosted its annual Executives Who Can Cook competition.

This year Tatil and Tatil Life Management Team and employees went all out with a themed booth called “Captain’s Cook’s Culinary Cuisine” and served delicious dishes such as Rum and Reggae Chicken, Spice Isle Hill Billy and Round De Town Shrimp to guests who attended.

The Round De Town Shrimp was a hot number as patrons flocked to the booth to get a taste of the shrimp in a spicy tomato and shadon benni cocktail served in a small coconut shell.

The friendly cook off competition attracted other insurance companies such as Sagicor, Guardian Life, Clico and Aligico.

Later on in the nights’ proceedings, a Tatil/Tatil Life hamper was awarded to a member of the audience by Mr. Ulric Miller, Executive Operations of Tatil Life.

At the end we were not victorious in winning any of the prizes but we were triumphant with our people who participated and attended as they displayed great team spirit and comradeship.

Top male SEA student, Rai Rooplal is living the life most 11 year olds would envy. After placing second in the nation’s Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) and meeting with batting legend Brian Lara, Rai, who is a Tatil Life Goldspoon policyholder, will also enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to Tobago with his family in honour of his achievement, courtesy Tatil Life. The Rooplals will be chauffeured to the Tropikist Beach Resort in Tobago, for the weekend.

Rai Rooplal who attends the Chaguanas Government Primary school, scored one mark less than the first place student in the May exam. The Rooplals, knowing their son’s potential had also invested in a Tatil Life Goldspoon plan in May 2011, to help pay for his university education and possibly his future business plans. With his success at the SEA, their policy will definitely come in handy, as Rai’s future will now fulfill both his and his parents’ dreams.
